Successful HCC management is an on-going process. In order to receive full reimbursement for their patients, Physicians must continually apply proper ICD-9 coding practices. MARA’s Prospective Review Program not only discovers HCCs that have previously gone undocumented, it also establishes a foundation for full reimbursement of future premiums.

Challenge: Changing the behavior of Physicians
How do we instruct Physicians in HCC coding so they not only understand the process, but retain and implement the lessons on a regular basis?

Solution: We offer comprehensive training seminars and information sessions, but the greatest potential rewards are gained from an all inclusive Prospective Review Program based on Learning Theories.

Learning new complex patterns of behavior requires modifying small behaviors that overall compose complex behavior.

• breaking it down into smaller segments
• using process improvement methods, and
• behaviors that are steps toward a final goal need to be reinforced and established first

MARA integrates physician education into the office workflow, providing everyday guidance on documentation. How? Our Patient-Specific Bulletins, delivered at the point of service, clearly explain to the Doctor what diagnoses to look for and how to document them.

This active and repetitive learning process can be supplemented with “Lunch & Learn” sessions with our “faculty” to address any Physician queries. Over time, Physicians won’t need the support of the bulletins as they begin to recognize and report the missing diagnoses themselves.
